Ayra Starr confirms relocation to New York City

Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has confirmed that she has relocated to New York City as part of efforts to expand her growing global career.

The 23-year-old singer, who has spent less than two months in the U.S. city, explained in a recent video interview that New York instantly felt familiar to her. She described its pace, energy and cultural rhythm as strikingly similar to Lagos, the city where she grew up, making the move feel natural rather than overwhelming.

Ayra Starr also pointed to the city’s large African — and specifically Nigerian — community as a major source of comfort. She said the strong presence of Nigerians in New York provides her with a sense of home even while she is thousands of miles away.

According to her, the relocation is a strategic step as she continues her rise on the international music scene, building on the momentum of her recent achievements and global recognition.
