The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has strengthened security operations across public and private schools in the state following rising concerns over students’ safety nationwide.
State Commander of the Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, made this known on Tuesday while parading 16 suspects arrested for various offences across Ondo State.
Adeleye said the heightened security followed intelligence alerts and recent attacks on educational institutions in other parts of the country. He noted that operatives have been deployed for routine patrols, surveillance, and rapid-response monitoring, particularly around schools with boarding facilities.
“In the wake of recent security breaches and kidnapping incidents, the Corps has commenced enhanced patrols of all boarding schools in Ondo State,” he said.
According to him, officers have visited several schools in the past week, mounting surveillance especially in border communities and schools located on the outskirts of major towns.
The suspects paraded were arrested under Operation Le Won Jade (Operation Flush Them Out), a security initiative launched last week to reinforce patrols along Ondo’s border corridors as the 2025 ember months approach. Adeleye said the operation targets kidnappers, armed robbers, bandits, and criminal groups operating within forest reserves and border routes linking Ondo with Ogun, Ekiti, Kwara, and Osun states.
“Of the 34 arrests made in the last week, we are parading 16 today. They include 10 suspects for breaches of public order, three for kidnapping, and three for violating the anti-open grazing law,” he said.
One of the suspects, identified as Abubakar, was arrested in Ogbese, Akure North, for flouting the anti-open grazing law. Others were apprehended for offences including stealing, fraud, vandalism, and murder.
Adeleye reported a noticeable decline in criminal activities across the state, attributing it to the success of the new operation and improved compliance with the anti-grazing law. He also praised local community leaders for providing intelligence that helped avert several potential attacks.
He assured residents that security agencies remain fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, adding that round-the-clock patrols have been intensified across all border towns.
