Prince Bayo Osiyemi, former Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State’s first civilian governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, has died at the age of 75.

A statement released by his family announced that he passed away early on November 24.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and esteemed community leader, Prince Bayo Osiyemi,” the family said. “While we mourn his loss deeply, we also celebrate his well-lived life and the countless individuals he touched. Further details on funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.”

Popularly known as the “Charming Prince,” Osiyemi was a respected figure in Lagos politics and journalism. He previously served as Chairman of Mushin Local Government and was at various times Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Matters to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Osiyemi also made his mark in the media industry as Editor of Lagos News, Chief Executive of Penby Communications, and a long-running weekly columnist with The Nation newspaper.

Born on February 4, 1950, in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, he hailed from the Sisu and Arowosugbo families, inheriting royal lineage from his mother’s side. He was given the Muslim name Abdul-Lateef at birth, and his traditional name, Omopeninu, reflected a delayed pregnancy said to have lasted over three years.

Prince Osiyemi is remembered for his contributions to public service, journalism, and community development.
