The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned corps members nationwide to avoid taking laws into their own hands during or after their service year, urging them to always follow the organisation’s approved channels for lodging complaints.

The warning was issued by the NYSC Bauchi State Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members at the permanent orientation camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

Kufre reminded the newly inducted corps members of the need to abide by all camp rules and respect the guiding principles of the scheme. He stressed that while challenges may arise during service, no grievance should be addressed through self-help.

He assured them that the NYSC management has put necessary measures in place to ensure their welfare throughout the orientation period. According to him, the scheme remains committed to providing essential amenities and maintaining a safe camp environment.

The coordinator also disclosed that a total of 2,050 corps members had been deployed to Bauchi for the one-year national service. He noted that the orientation programme had recorded no major incidents, with participants actively engaging in drills, lectures and other scheduled activities.

Kufre commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his continued support to the NYSC, particularly through the renovation of hostels and the construction of a new multipurpose hall within the camp. He further appealed for the reconstruction of a damaged section of the camp’s perimeter fence, which collapsed about a year ago.

Declaring the orientation course open, Governor Bala Mohammed urged the corps members to embrace the values of unity, service and national development. Represented by the State Head of Service, Mohammed Umar, the governor encouraged them to make meaningful contributions to their host communities during their service year.

Also speaking at the event, Justice Rabi Umar, the Bauchi State Chief Judge — represented by Abdullahi Yau, a Deputy Registrar of the High Court — administered the oath of allegiance and charged the corps members to maintain discipline, obey camp rules and uphold the laws of the country.
