The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned corps members and the public to disregard a pamphlet circulating on social media that allegedly advises members to pay ransom in the event of kidnapping.
In a statement released on Thursday, the NYSC clarified that the document is not an official publication and does not reflect the Scheme’s policy regarding the safety and security of corps members.
The management explained that a similar document had been presented for consideration in 2021 by a consultant but was never adopted by the NYSC. “Management wishes to make it clear that the document being circulated is not an official NYSC publication and should be ignored,” the statement emphasized.
The NYSC reassured corps members that it remains committed to their safety and continues to collaborate with security agencies and stakeholders to ensure robust protection.
The fake pamphlet, which resurfaced online, reportedly suggested that travellers on “high-risk roads” alert family or colleagues to have someone available to pay ransom in the event of abduction. The NYSC noted that variations of the document had circulated previously but were not sanctioned or approved by the Scheme.
Management urged corps members and the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and to rely only on official communications from the NYSC regarding security and safety protocols.
