President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of personnel of the Nigerian Army by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.
The President’s message of condolence was conveyed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
DAILY POST had reported that ISWAP terrorists abducted and killed several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, during an operation in Borno State.
President Tinubu described the incident as a painful loss to the nation and commiserated with the Nigerian Armed Forces and the families of the slain officers.
“I sympathise with the military over the death of the gallant soldiers and Brigadier General Musa Uba, who paid the ultimate price while on active duty fighting insurgents in Borno State,” the President said.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes.”
Tinubu called on Nigerians, especially those in local communities, to support security operatives by sharing useful intelligence that could enhance ongoing counterterrorism operations.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information that will help them keep our communities safe. Your cooperation is crucial in our fight against these security challenges,” he added.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace across the country.
