Tension has gripped the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja as the factions led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former minister Taminu Turaki prepare to hold separate meetings at the same venue.

There is a heavy presence of security operatives, including police officers, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies around the Zone 5 Secretariat. Supporters of both factions have also gathered near the premises, drumming, chanting and singing as they await the outcome of the unfolding power struggle.

As of the time of filing this report, some members invited by the Anyanwu-led faction for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting had already arrived at the Secretariat.

Anyanwu himself arrived at about 8:50am and proceeded straight to his office.

By 9:27am, loyalists of the Turaki-led faction had yet to arrive, though there are indications that they are on their way.

Speaking to reporters, Anyanwu confirmed that he invited the security agencies, stating that it is standard procedure for NEC meetings due to the expected crowd.

“I wrote to the security agencies and the NEC on 14th November informing them of the NEC/BoT meeting scheduled for today. I am the National Secretary of the party and my tenure runs till December 8,” he said.

Reacting to the Turaki group’s plan to hold a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at the same Secretariat, Anyanwu dismissed the move.

“We are going for our meeting and we do not expect any intruder. He is coming to hold a meeting here as what?” he asked.

The situation remains tense as both factions continue their battle for control of the party’s national structures.
