Taraba Speaker, Entire House of Assembly Defect From PDP to APC

Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected en masse to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a historic shift in the political landscape of the state.

The Speaker of the Assembly, John Kizito, announced the development during plenary on Monday after reading individual letters from all defecting lawmakers, each citing their decision to abandon the PDP for the APC.

The lawmakers attributed their defection to the prolonged leadership crisis rocking the PDP at the national level, as well as the need to “align with the centre” to attract greater federal presence and development to Taraba State.

The mass defection comes ahead of the planned move by the state governor, Agbu Kefas, who is expected to formally join the APC on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

With this development, the entire 24-member Taraba State House of Assembly is now fully controlled by the APC, leaving the PDP with no representation in the legislature.
