Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has said that politics should be an open table for the nation, not a private gathering of a few, stressing that the willingness to make Nigeria great should be a shared priority among political leaders.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday, Nwoko urged leaders across all sectors to think creatively and act decisively for the betterment of the country.

According to him, “No one else can make our country great except us — the opportune political leaders. That is why my political ideals and actions align with the need to break down walls of exclusive politics, promoting inclusive governance that delivers justice, development, and true dividends for all residents in Delta North and Nigeria at large.”

Reflecting on his two-year journey in the Senate, the lawmaker, who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, said his experience has shaped his legislative focus and inspired his sponsorship of 34 transformative bills aimed at strengthening governance and improving lives.

“Each of these bills represents my unwavering commitment to people-centred governance, economic reform, youth empowerment, institutional strengthening, and equitable development of all regions,” he said.

Among the bills he sponsored are the Constitutional Alteration for the Creation of Anioma State, Nigerian Youth Entrepreneurship Grant Programme (Establishment) Bill, and the Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency (Establishment) Bill.

He also sponsored the One-Month Rent Limitation and Landlord Registry Act, which caps advance rent at one month for specific residential categories and establishes a national tenancy registry to promote fairness, transparency, and rental insurance mechanisms.

Other notable bills include the Electoral Courts Establishment and Jurisdiction Act, the Cashless Asset Acquisition Act, which mandates property and high-value transactions to be processed through traceable systems, and the Self-Defence and Firearm Ownership Regulation Act.

Additional legislative initiatives by Nwoko include the Diaspora Voting Bill, Parliamentary Governance System Act, Upgrade of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic to Federal University of Technology Bill, National Vigilante Group (Establishment) Bill, and the Mandatory Military Service for Youths (Establishment) Bill.

He also proposed the National Ranching Development and Management Bill, Immigration Act Amendment for Visa-Free Entry for AU Passport Holders, and the FRSC Act Amendment restricting daytime movement of heavy-duty vehicles.

Other bills include the Institute for Leadership, Entrepreneurial and Corporate Governance (Establishment) Bill, 2025 (SB.921), which aims to train executives, policymakers, and emerging leaders in ethical leadership and corporate governance.

“These 34 bills reflect my vision of a reformed, equitable, and globally competitive Nigeria where governance works for the people, institutions serve with integrity, and every citizen feels the impact of effective representation,” Nwoko said.
