The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has introduced a fully digitised platform aimed at transforming the processes for drug integrity testing and visa clearance in Nigeria. The initiative, launched in Abuja, is designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility while curbing substance abuse and preventing drug syndicates from exploiting legitimate travel processes.
At the unveiling, NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by the agency’s secretary, Shadrach Haruna, described the move as a turning point in Nigeria’s drug control strategy. He said the digitisation aligns with the federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda, combining technology with enforcement to eliminate manual bottlenecks, human interference, and delays that have historically plagued the system.
With the new portal, applicants no longer need to visit NDLEA offices physically. Instead, they can register online, choose their preferred testing centres, and schedule appointments at their convenience. The system provides on-the-spot certificate generation once test results are submitted, while visa clearance can be completed within three to seven days.
The portal also introduces mechanisms for background checks to strengthen Nigeria’s security profile and protect the integrity of international travel documentation. According to Marwa, accredited private medical centres will be allowed to partner with NDLEA to expand access to drug testing services.
Marwa explained that the inclusion of students in the drug testing programme is not intended to stigmatise but to promote prevention. Those who test positive will have access to rehabilitation and counselling services provided by the agency.
Emphasising the broader goal of drug demand reduction and public service integrity, he urged Nigerians to take advantage of the platform and noted that it reflects the agency’s commitment to a responsive, digital-first approach to public service.
The platform is now live and can be accessed at www.drugandvisa.ndlea.gov.ng.
