The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will on Saturday hold its annual 10-kilometre Walk and Jog Exercise in Abuja, an initiative designed to strengthen the physical fitness, health, and operational readiness of its personnel. The event is part of the Force’s broader commitment to maintaining peak performance levels among officers and airmen, recognizing that physical endurance remains a crucial component of military effectiveness.

The exercise, scheduled to take place between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., will be held along the service lane stretching from Karu Bridge to Mogadishu Cantonment Bridge on the Abuja–Nyanya–Keffi expressway. During the activity, the route will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement to ensure the safety of participants and smooth coordination of the event. Motorists and commuters are therefore advised to use alternative routes within the period.

Comprehensive safety and traffic management measures have been put in place to minimize inconvenience to the public. Security personnel, medical teams, and traffic marshals will be deployed along the route to provide support and ensure that the exercise proceeds without incident. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume immediately after the event concludes.

Beyond its physical benefits, the exercise serves as a platform for fostering camaraderie, discipline, and teamwork within the ranks of the Air Force. It also reflects the service’s ongoing efforts to build a healthier and more resilient force capable of responding effectively to the nation’s security challenges.

The Nigerian Air Force has over the years maintained a consistent focus on the welfare and well-being of its personnel through similar fitness and capacity-building programmes. These initiatives not only promote a culture of health and discipline but also reinforce the service’s readiness to execute its constitutional responsibilities in safeguarding Nigeria’s airspace and contributing to national security.

Members of the public are urged to cooperate with traffic and security officials during the brief restriction period, as the exercise forms part of the NAF’s continuous drive to ensure that its personnel remain physically and mentally prepared for duty.
