A man identified as Lawal Faruq has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly setting his former lover, Omolola Hassan, on fire following the breakdown of their relationship.
The incident occurred at a military barracks in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. According to reports, Faruq became enraged after the end of the relationship, claiming that both he and the victim had taken an oath never to separate.
Driven by anger, he allegedly poured petrol on the victim and set her ablaze.
Military personnel at the barracks quickly responded, putting out the fire and rushing the victim to Yawiri Hospital in the Akobo area of Ibadan for emergency treatment. The suspect was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, stated that the case is under investigation.
This shocking act adds to growing concerns about the rising cases of violence related to failed romantic relationships in Nigeria. Authorities continue to urge the public to seek peaceful and lawful solutions to domestic and emotional disputes.
