Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has called on political leaders and stakeholders across the state to join hands with his administration in addressing the rising insecurity affecting communities in the state.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre in Owerri on Monday, the governor reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Uzodimma expressed strong support for the establishment of state police as a long-term solution to grassroots security challenges. He disclosed that the state had concluded plans to train and equip vigilante personnel from each autonomous community to strengthen local security architecture.
“We have concluded plans to train vigilante personnel drawn from each autonomous community of the state. These personnel will be equipped to maintain security and protect lives and property,” he said.
The governor also condemned the activities of criminal elements targeting leaders and prominent individuals, warning that such actions were leaving communities increasingly vulnerable.
Encouraging party unity and pride, Uzodimma urged APC stakeholders to promote the party’s values and invite others to join, claiming that those outside the party were “wasting their time.” He hinted at ongoing political realignments, suggesting that the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa states might soon defect to the APC.
On economic empowerment, the governor drew attention to a federal government initiative aimed at supporting businesses and expressed concern that Imo and other South East states were not fully benefiting from the programme. He pledged to assist in compiling necessary documentation to ensure more residents could participate.
The meeting brought together party leaders, government officials, and community representatives as the state continues efforts to restore peace and boost development.
