Finance Minister Wale Edun Reportedly Flown to UK for Medical Treatment

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has reportedly been flown to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

Sources familiar with the development confirmed the information to Western Post on Tuesday.

The report comes just days after presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga dismissed earlier claims that the minister had been taken abroad for medical care.

While the presidency had previously stated that Edun was ill but receiving treatment in Nigeria, new reports suggest he has now been moved to the UK for further medical attention.

Onanuga had also disclosed that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, was appointed to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the ongoing World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings in Washington, D.C., in Edun’s absence.

As of the time of filing this report, the presidency has not issued an official statement confirming or denying the minister’s reported transfer abroad.
