The Federal Government has declared Borno State as Nigeria’s most resilient state, commending its people for their remarkable ability to overcome years of violent attacks and other challenges.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the declaration during a visit to the state’s Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, in Maiduguri on Wednesday. The visit formed part of activities marking the meeting of the APC Commissioners of Information Forum.
Idris described Borno as a model of courage and recovery, noting that the state has continued to rebuild despite over a decade of insurgency, mass displacement, and destruction caused by Boko Haram and its splinter groups.
“Borno State is clearly Nigeria’s most resilient state, against the backdrop of the severe challenges it has experienced in the last decade,” Idris said.
He added that the people of the state embody the enduring spirit and strength that define Nigerians, calling for national recognition of their perseverance.
“The people of Borno State symbolise the strength and the staying power that Nigerians are imbued with, and it is therefore appropriate for all other Nigerians to not only praise the citizens of the state but speak proudly of their ability to overcome challenges,” the minister stated.
Borno, created in 1976 and named after the historic Borno Emirate, shares borders with Yobe, Gombe, and Adamawa states, as well as Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Despite years of insecurity and recent flooding that devastated several communities, the state continues to make progress in rebuilding lives and restoring stability across affected areas.
