Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri Resigns from PDP Alongside State Lawmakers

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement was made by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, who confirmed that the decision also includes the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members of the state legislature.

Governor Diri’s resignation ends months of speculation about his possible defection, though it remains unclear which political party he plans to join next.

According to reports, the governor made the announcement during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House in Yenagoa. It is also understood that he has formally submitted his resignation letter to the PDP.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that members of the State Executive Council have also stepped down in solidarity with the governor.

Efforts to reach the Bayelsa PDP Chairman, Mr. Solomon Agwanana, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
