The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced a new strategic framework, Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028, aimed at fostering a more inclusive, innovative, and secure digital financial ecosystem across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the bank announced that the framework was launched during the inaugural meeting of the PSV 2028 Project Committee, held in Lagos on Tuesday.
Building on the achievements of previous initiatives such as PSV 2020 and PSV 2025, the new vision aims to deepen financial inclusion, enhance infrastructure interoperability, and drive innovation across Nigeria’s financial services sector.
The CBN noted that the new vision will also position Nigeria’s payment system to remain competitive in an increasingly digital global economy.
Speaking at the meeting, the Director of the Payments System Policy Department, Musa Jimoh, described the initiative as a national assignment capable of transforming the way individuals, businesses, and government institutions interact within the financial space.
He added that the framework will leverage past successes while responding to the rapid pace of technological advancement in the payment industry.
The CBN stated that Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028 will be developed through a collaborative, stakeholder-driven process involving regulators, banks, fintechs, payment service providers, consumer advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders.
This inclusive approach, according to the bank, is intended to ensure the strategy addresses real-world needs, fosters broader policy acceptance, and drives innovation through shared responsibility.
