Bye-election: Five candidates sign peace accord in Oyo

Five candidates contesting the forthcoming bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State, on Wednesday signed a peace accord at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ibadan, the state capital.

The candidates include Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adewale Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olabisi Odususi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Fola Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The bye-election is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.

According to report that the seat became vacant following the death of Musiliudeen Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, a two-term member of the House of Representatives representing the constituency. He passed away in July 2024 at the age of 51 during a brief illness in Abuja.

Speaking at the peace accord signing, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Oyo State, Tella Adeniran, emphasized the importance of a peaceful and credible electoral process. He urged the candidates and their supporters to uphold peace, discipline, and democratic values throughout the election period.

The commissioner also assured them that the commission is committed to conducting a credible election.

“On behalf of INEC, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to this significant event, the official signing of the Peace Accord for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election,” he said.
