The final burial ceremony of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, commenced on today with a lying-in-state at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan South East Local Government Area.
The solemn occasion was attended by Baales, Mogajis, Christian and Islamic clerics, traditional worshippers, and other stakeholders from within and outside the state.
In their tributes, the stakeholders noted that the late Oba Olakulehin would be remembered for promoting and defending the Yoruba heritage during his short but impactful reign.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Interfaith, Rev. Femi Ibikunle, described the late monarch as an astute and articulate traditional ruler.
He said the late Olakulehin always had the interest of his people at heart during his lifetime.
Ibikunle added that the late monarch was a hardworking and accommodating man who upheld religious harmony, which contributed to the peaceful nature of his reign as the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
In his remarks, the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Asimiyu Ariori, said the late monarch lived a life of merit and honor.
He noted that Olakulehin’s impact on Ibadanland cannot be overemphasized.
Meanwhile, the son of the late monarch, Prince Sunmbo Owolabi, speaking on behalf of the family, thanked the CCII, Mogajis, and all sons and daughters of Ibadan for their support. He prayed that Ibadanland would continue to grow stronger.
As part of the burial activities, a Christian wake will hold on this evening at the New Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
