Members of the Olubadan-In-Council are expected to commence the process of installing the 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as 21 day mourning period in honor of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, began on Tuesday.
The declaration of the mourning period is in accordance with an age-long tradition of Ibadan land.
Oba Olakulehin passed away early Monday morning after a brief illness. He died at a private hospital in the Jericho area of Ibadan.
It reports that Oba Olakulehin died in the early hours of Monday after a brief illness at an undisclosed private hospital at Jericho in Ibadan, the state capital.
“However, Baba (Ladoja) is coming back to Ibadan next week.
Notable dignitaries have been calling to commiserate with him on the demise of the late Kabiyesi.
“He will be back in the town next week to facilitate the traditional process.”
As tradition dictates, the most senior chief on the Balogun line, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, will formally nominate Oba Ladoja as the next Olubadan. The nomination will then be seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole.
This will take place during a council meeting, which will be held at the new Olubadan palace in Oke-Aremo, within the Ibadan North Local Government Area.
