Award-winning singer Adekunle Gold has launched the “5 Star Care” initiative to mark World Sickle Cell Day, fulfilling a personal promise to support individuals living with sickle cell disease.

Partnering with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Sickle Cell Management Initiative, the programme will provide free health insurance to 1,000 people in Lagos affected by the condition.

The initiative builds on Adekunle Gold’s ongoing efforts to uplift sickle cell warriors, including a previous medical outreach that supported over 300 individuals and a scholarship programme for those living with the disease to study music business.

Having lived with sickle cell anemia since birth, the singer has frequently shared his struggles, from debilitating pain crises to feelings of isolation due to widespread misconceptions about the condition.

Announcing the initiative, Adekunle Gold said, “5 Star Care isn’t just an initiative, it’s a promise, a promise to ensure that sickle cell warriors are seen, heard, and cared for. We’re starting small by providing free health insurance to 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos State. But this is only the beginning.”

Through “5 Star Care,” he hopes to create lasting change and provide meaningful support to those navigating life with sickle cell.
