The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, has condemned the recent killing of civilians in Benue State, describing the attack as barbaric and unjustifiable.
His on-the-spot assessment visit followed last Friday’s massacre in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, which saw around 200 people killed.
According to a statement signed by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, on Thursday, the CG met with the state government and affected communities, offering condolences to the families of those killed.
“Audi decried the mindless killing of armless women and children in the unfortunate incident that erupted recently, noting that there was no justification whatsoever for the gruesome murder of innocent citizens,” the statement said.
The CG assured that the corps would work in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the violence are identified and brought to justice.
He gave directives to the Zonal Commander and State Commandant to strengthen intelligence networks and deploy special forces, covert operatives, and tactical units across the state.
According to him, these operations would be conducted in partnership with other stakeholders to improve security coordination and responsiveness.
He further emphasised the need for full deployment of counterterrorism units and intelligence teams for both covert and overt operations.
