Condolence messages are pouring in for elder statesman and chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayodele Adebanjo, who passed away this morning at the age of 96.
A statement released by the family confirmed that Pa Adebanjo died at his residence in Lekki, Lagos State.
Describing Adebanjo, Afenifere said their late leader will be remembered for his unwavering advocacy for restructuring, true federalism, and a Nigeria founded on equity and inclusivity for all ethnic nationalities.
In their separate statements, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, and a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae described the passing of the foremost Afenifere leader, as a monumental loss, emphasizing that it has created a significant vacuum in the socio-political landscape.
Also, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa said that the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, left an indelible mark with his tireless efforts to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the country.
The family of Pa Adebanjo said consultations are ongoing with the deceased’s friends, associates, and various interest groups across the country and beyond to finalise plans for a befitting funeral.
