The Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State chapter, has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde’s decision to approve a new minimum wage of N80,000 for state workers, describing it as a progressive move for the welfare of the workforce.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed that the approval followed recommendations from a technical committee appointed by the government.

Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, NLC Chairman Kayode Martins commended the governor’s gesture, noting that this increase demonstrates Makinde’s commitment to the welfare of workers.

“The approved minimum wage is a significant morale booster, and workers are committed to reciprocating by enhancing productivity,” Martins said.

Martins urged members of the government’s negotiation team to reflect similar generosity in ensuring a fair consequential adjustment, so all employees benefit from the governor’s “milk of human kindness.”

He also acknowledged the resilience of workers in the state, who have remained united and patient throughout the minimum wage review process.

The NLC leader assured the Makinde-led administration of the continued support and collaboration of labour unions in driving initiatives that benefit Oyo workers and foster their well-being.
